Our Neighbourhood

Our Neighbourhood is a free service helping to connect people and communities. The service benefits people who may be isolated, lonely or need a bit of extra support. We are also here for community groups; especially for those just starting out and/or for those wishing to further develop their established offer.

The Our Neighbourhood project is currently available to those residing within Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale.

What the service provides

What the service provides

Once you are contacted by a member of the team, our first action is to listen and work with you to understand how we can help. This may include:

  • Offering information, advice and signposting on how to find the right support for you or to help you stay well and active within your local community
  • Providing opportunities to meet new people, join in social activities and perhaps try something different (you can find out more information and book onto our social activities here)
  • Support through befriending - either on the phone or in person
  • Inspiration to find a volunteer role around your interests.
  • Work with existing volunteers to build community activity and groups so that more local people can join in.
What do people say about our service?

What do people say about our service?

"What I enjoy about Stepping Out the most is that everyone is sociable; everyone really cares about each other. It gives me confidence and improves my self-esteem”.

"Although I have good family support, it is lovely to have a friend who can spend time with me, to do some of the simple things like grab a cuppa or come to a social activity group with me – I can feel my confidence growing.  We are now good friends and I think we help each other!"
