Carer Connections Update
01/03/2026
During this extended period, carers embraced digital design and crafting, using a circuit machine to create wonderful Christmas gifts such as pencil cases, festive cards and aprons. These sessions not only sparked creativity but also earned participants a qualification, with certificates soon to be awarded - a proud achievement for all involved!
The spirit of learning didn’t stop there. Many carers are now taking the next step by enrolling in additional adult education courses focused on digital skills and crafting, continuing their journey of personal growth.
Another highlight was the successful completion of the Caring with Confidence course, which ran from September through December. Participants shared glowing feedback, saying ‘It will be the best thing you will do for yourself and your cared for’. The course culminated in a joyful Christmas lunch in Catterick, where carers celebrated their achievements together.
Building on this success, a new veterans and armed forces carers group will launch in the Catterick Village in February, alongside another Caring with Confidence course planned for Leeming. These initiatives promise ongoing support and connection for carers in these communities.
Well-being has also been a key focus. The Easingwold carers group welcomed Justin from Partners in Dementia, who talked to the group about breathwork sessions encouraging carers to prioritise their own health and relaxation. Justin will be coming back in our February group to lead a breathwork session. Additionally, Helen from Healthwatch visited to gather valuable feedback from carers about local healthcare services, including GP surgeries, dental care, NHS support, and social care. This input will help shape improvements in the community.
Before the festive season, we took a moment to thank our wonderful volunteers with coffee and cake - a small gesture to recognise their invaluable support throughout the year. We look forward to continuing this partnership in the year ahead.
As we move into the new year, the Carer Connections project remains committed to supporting carers through learning, well-being, and community connection. Watch this space for more exciting opportunities and groups coming soon!
The last few months has been busy for the Carer Connections project! It has been bustling with activity, learning, and lovely community spirit. Thanks to a generous extension of the Building Stronger Communities programme with North Yorkshire Council Adult Learning, carers enjoyed an extra four weeks of creative and skill-building sessions leading right up to Christmas.
