Fabulous News for the over 65’s: Scarborough, Whitby Ryedale Mind and Carers Plus Yorkshire are teaming up to bring a new opportunity to communities in Whitby and Filey.
We have come together to support community members who are living with a new or existing serious mental illness, AND who are feeling disconnected or isolated as a result of their ill-health.
With the national statistics reminding us that 1:4 people will experience mental ill-health, and 1:3 older people will feel the negative impact of loneliness and isolation, we wanted to co-design a service that would help people to work through challenging times, if a combination of these two factors were having an influence on everyday life.
The service is set to offer two clear, interrelated components:
The development of ‘time’ within the Mind schedule to offer more 1:1 support for older people experiencing mental poor health. To have the time to meet, support and develop confidence in clients to take the first step to break the routine.
The development of appropriate and relevant community activity by Carers Plus Yorkshire to receive and support clients transitioning from 1:1 support; seeking to maximise meaningful engagement and friendships in their community.
